Aims

Objective of the funding opportunity: FP6 aims to contribute to the creation of a true "European Research Area", an internal market for science and technology. It fosters scientific excellence, competitiveness and innovation through the promotion of better co-operation and co-ordination between relevant actors at all levels. The programme has seven thematic priorities:
Life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health
Information society technologies
Nanotechnologies, multifunctional materials and new production processes
Aeronautics and space
Food quality and safety
Sustainable development, global change and ecosystems
Citizens and governance in a knowledge-based society
It also funds a number of more general actions and measures including Horizontal research activities involving SMEs

It aims to help the following client groups:
Entrepreneurs
Those in work
Those who work for SMEs
Those with higher level skills

Eligibility Eligible organisations:  Any legal entity.
As potential users of technology and technological applications, universities, research institutes, SMEs and big companies are all equally eligible.
Accreditation Organisations must have the following accreditation to bid: No accreditation is needed
Amount available Funding available: In total, 17.5 billion euros have been allocated to the programme.

The funding available for each project will vary depending on the type of project, the number of partners and the ambition and scope of the research to be carried out.
