Applications can be submitted at any time. There are no deadlines.
The Trustees meet to consider applications 3-4 times a year. Therefore it is recommended that applications are made in good time, preferably not less than 4 months and ideally up to 6 months before work is due to start or a decision is needed.
The Trustees do not publise or discuss the dates of the meetings.

Aims

Objective of the funding opportunity: To support work of national importance which helps society's most vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals, especially children, young people and the elderly. The areas of work it supports include:

Education
- The Trust supports education at all levels (formal and informal). It's current areas of special interest in the Education sector are:
- Bursaries towards student fees or maintanance grants offered by individual university departments or academic institutes for study leading to a taught post-graduate degree, particularly in subjects which are part of recognised emerging research areas
- Encouraging participation by individuals with special physical, learning or emotional needs to take part in structured "year out" placements organised by charities
- Support towards the costs (fees or maintainance) of retraining in the UK of refugees who are professionally qualified abroad

Social Welfare - The Trust supports all types of social welfare and development work.

Arts - Current areas of special interest in this sector include specialist arts-education organisations or the education departments of general arts organisations which help children and young people with the transition between between different levels of formal education

Health/medicine - Special interest in research into the longer-term and broader consequences of surgical and medical treatments, for example in terms of quality of life, independent employability, self-worth, participation and achievement.

Young People and Career Choices
Eligibility Eligible Organisations:  Charities registered and working in the UK. UK Universities.
In the case of "year out" placements, the Trust will not accept direct applications from individuals, only those made jointly with the charity. For the other education grants, they will not accept applications from or in respect of individuals.
Grants should help to lever funding from other sources.
Accreditation Organisations must have the following accreditation to bid: No accreditation is needed.
Amount available Funding available:
The Foundation's annual expenditure is around £1.5 million. The Trust aims to spread this reasonably evenly between the 4 sectors it supports. The normal grant size is £5,000-20,000 but competition for awards towards the upper end of this range is tough.
