There are different deadlines for each actions The first deadline is 1 November 2004. Please see the Socrates Website for details of all deadlines. Other programmes, such as training grants are ongoing and applications can be made at any time at least 6 weeks prior to the activity taking place.

Aims

Objective of the funding opportunity: Socrates supports European co-operation on a range of educational projects, initiatives and professional development, providing opportunities for all sectors from schools through to higher education and lifelong learning. It aims to promote lifelong learning, encourage access to education for everybody and help people to acquire recognised qualifications and skills. Socrates particularly seeks to promote language learning, mobility and innovation. The programme is split into a number of "Actions" including:

Comenius - School Education
Erasumus - Higher Education
Grundtvig - Adult Education and other education pathways
Lingua - Foreign Languages
Minerva - Information and Communication technologies (ICT)  in education

It aims to help the following client groups:
Those in work
Those with intermediate level skills
Those with higher level skills
Young People
Those lacking basic skills
The low skilled

Eligibility Eligible organisations: As a general rule, projects must normally include at least 3 institutions from at least three countries, one of which must be an EU member state. However, different activities have different requirements so check the Socrates UK website for details.
Accreditation Organisations must have the following accreditation to bid: No accreditation is needed
Amount available Funding available: This varies depending on the activity applied for and the nature of the project.
